Job Description:
This position is responsible for maintenance management, customer notification and interface with customers, and site access support for the network. Reviewing documentation in multiple inputs and other systems to obtain critical information to ensure network reliability. Must be detail oriented and adaptable with the capacity to learn and retain information and how to apply what has been learned to daily tasks. Must be able to interface with customers both internal and external, management at all levels with professionalism.
DUTIES *Works with telecom color-coded wires and cables. *Works with basic electricity, as it relates to telecommunications. *Connects wires and cables to terminals, and attaches/detaches various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, buildings, and poles. *Performs continuity and/or conformance testing. *Performs testing and turn-up of subscriber lines, carrier plant, and/or fiber optic plant. *Locates and repairs air leaks in aerial, underground, and/or buried cable. *Locates, splices, repairs and rearranges cable and cable conductors in buildings and aerial or buried plant. *Initiates or performs cable cuts, transfer projects, and/or load balance cuts, and issues necessary cuts to prevent blocking. *Reads and interprets customer service orders, technical (i.e., mechanical, electrical, digital) drawings, maps, blueprints, diagrams, etc. *Receives service orders, worksheets (detailed diagrams describing nature and location of equipment to be installed or repaired) and repair tickets from supervisor or other designated employees and performs specified work.
Job Requirements *Detailed understanding of DS0/1 and 3 circuits: point to point, private line, and ethernet *Advanced layer 1 troubleshooting for DS0 and DS1 circuits, including Titan and Alcatel DCCS experience. *Strong working knowledge of complex IP issue resolution. *In-depth knowledge of troubleshooting circuit degradation issues, including utilization, bandwidth and latency problems *Advanced expertise with IP routing on multiple router platforms *Advanced expertise with PRN networks and routing protocols: BGP, MPLS, MLPPP *Advanced expertise with multiple router platforms with and with Cisco and Juniper and Alcatel-Lucent CLIs. (PLEASE SUBMIT ANY CERTIFICATIONS w. RESUME!!!) *DNS & e-mail problem expertise *Manage and correlate multiple trouble reports. Communicate with customers and others in a repair situation. *Detailed understanding of the OSI networking model physical, data link, and network layers. *Remote troubleshooting and testing experience.
The Technician will install, test, troubleshoot, repair and upgrade equipment that receives signals for residential and business customers. The work performed must follow safety guidelines as well as pre-approved installation, testing, repair and upgrade processes.
Duties will include but not limited to: • Prepares for satellite dish system installations by reviewing installation orders, gathering equipment, supplies, and tools. • Customer interaction in areas such as: • Coordinates daily schedules • Resolving concerns and answering questions, by listening to customer’s explanation of problem, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing problem • Plans installations by evaluating location; locating access; laying-out equipment and wiring plan • Deliver quality services to our customers and ensure products and services are explained • Testing equipment and connections, identifying and correcting problems • Maintains safe work environment by following safe practices
We are looking for people who have: • Have good customer service skills • Have a minimum of six months of work experience • Are able to life 50 lbs and climb 40 foot ladders • Meet weight restrictions to comply with OSHA and safety standards • Are able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, verbally and written • Have a valid driver’s license • Are able to pass background, drug test and MVD driving record pre-employment • SBCA certification desirable • Albany, NY area

Daily contact with utility managers, crews, homeowners, and contractors discussing locate issues. Prioritize work by going through all locate requests to determine routing. Read and understand utility provided maps to assist in identification of underground utilities. 90% of job time is spent in field environment with some administrative work required and exposure to all field hazards. Occasional lifting of materials up to 50 pounds required. Office hours and schedule may vary. Requires up to 5 miles a day walking at least twice a week.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant must be able to work well in an unsupervised situation and have the ability to solve problems. Knowledge of underground utility construction and the area is preferred. Must have solid oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work with people. Must have a valid drivers license with a good driving record and be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
