Frank Tucker started Tucker Technology in 1993. First operating out of a guest room in his home, he eventually moved to a small business incubator in West Oakland where he shared services with other entrepreneurs.
By 1996, as the technology sector was beginning to heat-up, Frank applied for and received acceptance in the Oakland Communications Technology Cluster (CTC), a business incubator for companies in the rapidly growing technology sector. The CTC offered incubator businesses pro-bono legal and accounting services, in addition to affordable rental space in a renovated office building centrally located in Downtown Oakland’s Business District. Business networking luncheons and other consultation services allowed the CTC businesses to thrive. Many of the relationships Tucker Technology developed in the CTC are still maintained till this day.
By 1997, Tucker Technology was rapidly growing securing projects with major telecommunications carriers throughout the country. In 1998, Tucker was featured as the premier MBE (Minority Business Enterprise) vendor for Lucent Technologies and NorTel Networks. Tucker continued to grow and ride the technology bubble through 2000. From 1999 – 2003 Tucker Technology was ranked on the Top 10 List of Fastest Growing Privately held Businesses in the Inner City by INC Magazine. Tucker Technology was ranked in INC Magazine’s INC 500 of Fastest Growing Privately held Businesses.
As many of Tucker Technology’s customers scaled back their outsourcing when the technology bubble burst, Tucker focused more of their efforts on the public sector. Partnering with large engineering and construction firms, Tucker shifted its business model to target the federal, state and local governments. Tucker also participated in many large telecom infrastructure projects and garnered recognition from Turner Construction as Partner of the Year in 2006.
Joined now by his daughter Conchita, as President, Frank Tucker is currently leading the business through another chapter.
